The Vyas Laboratory studies the intersection between pathogenic fungal organisms and initial host responses. Invasive fungal infections are a leading cause of death among immunocompromised patients. It is therefore essential to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions to improve outcomes for patients with invasive fungal infections. Using animal models, cell culture systems, and patient samples, the NIH-funded Vyas Laboratory investigates the mechanisms involved in responses to fungi in lung and bloodstream fungal infections to reveal novel therapeutic targets for high-risk patients.

The laboratory is affiliated with the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and will be transitioning to Columbia University Irving Medical Center soon.
